Irlam and Cadishead Foodbank is appealing for donations from the community after a break-in caused extensive damage.
The burglary will cost the non-profit charity thousands of pounds to repair damage to the premises and replace lost stock.
On Sunday January 21 at around 9pm the foodbank was broken into by a lone perpetrator who forced the door.
Once inside, the person filled a black bin bag with the foodbank’s stock of food and toiletries before leaving on foot.
The foodbank stated on is Facebook page: “Unfortunately we know that many people in need will be affected by the selfish and wilful acts of these individuals whose image has thankfully been captured on our CCTV and handed over to the police.
“Our advice is if you have a voucher and can get to another foodbank they should honour it.
“Once again we are sorry to have to do this but it is out of our control.”
The burglary forced the foodbank to close this week.
Police are investigating. Anyone who may have information can call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously – quoting reference 0526-22012024.
