A community-led litter picking group have been coming together to clean up rubbish in Salford.
The team run by volunteering residents of the local area have made it their mission to clean up areas within Salford to make the city a cleaner and happier place. The main goal is to reduce litter pollution which is the most important thing to the local biodiversity, water systems and their reputation.
Andy Salter, one of the volunteers, said: “I recognised a littered environment was contributing to and aggravating a long term depressive disorder so I decided I needed to do something about it.
“Personally for me, having a cleaner environment means nature & wildlife stand a better chance of thriving instead of just surviving amongst the rubbish that’s allowed to accumulate.”
The group has grown to nearly100 volunteers who are helping to pick up litter around Salford,
Andy added: “I have met residents out picking not even aware of our group so we have what I call ‘Mystery Pickers’ also doing the work.”
