Following the amber cold-health alert issued this week, Age UK Salford has posted their advice on keeping warm this winter.
In regards to your home make sure, if possible, to keep it a steady heated temperature throughout the day. Age UK Salford recommends at least 18°C (64°F), and to wear suitable clothing.
It is also best to ensure bedroom windows are shut on a winter’s night.
🥶 Further cold weather is likely through much of this week, with an increasing chance of wintry hazards towards the start of next week.

It is also important to eat and drink well during the colder weather spells, drinking warm drinks often is highly recommended.
Age UK Salford also recommends having a torch handy around the home in case of a power cut “and some spare batteries too.”
It is essential to keep emergency numbers nearby. “Call 105 in the event of a power cut – you can report a power cut and get information and advice if there is one in your area.
“You can also register with your supplier so they’ll call you in the event of a power cut.”
It’s furthermore necessary to take extra care if the ground outside is slippery. Wearing shoes with good grip is advised to keep steadier.
“Ask family members, relatives or neighbours to help you if it’s too cold to leave your home.”
Lastly, make sure to plan ahead when driving. Try to avoid going out in the car in bad weather if possible, and make sure you follow advice on driving conditions near you.
