Coronation Street star Alan Halsall attended an opening night at the new Monton restaurant, Mexicali, which raised over £700 for charity.
Mexicali on Monton Road kicked off the first day of the Mexican Christmas festival ‘Las Posadas’ in “true Latin style” last Saturday night (December 16) in support of the homeless charity Emmaus Salford.
The local visual artist Sian Elizabeth also known as Fanny Gogh designed & led the event, which was also attended by Coronation Street star Alan Halsall, his partner Tisha Merry and Alan’s daughter Sienna.
The successful event which gave out free tacos managed to raise a hefty sum for Emmaus Salford however they still haven’t hit their target of £1000.
Their GoFundMe page is open for six more days, in line with the ‘Las Posadas’ festival which is celebrated in Mexico typically between December 16-24.
Las Posadas is a religious festival celebrated in Mexico and commemorates the journey of Joseph and Mary in search of a safe refuge.
Mexicali stated on their Instagram page: “Apart from the expected minor issues, the launch night was amazing, and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came down.
“We’ve raised £741 so far, so not far off the £1000 target. We learnt a lot of lessons, and we’ve got a lot to do now in preparation to open properly. We used up a lot of meat giving out so many tacos, so much that we’ve used tonight’s stock as well!”
