Irlam and Cadishead Academy students recently rowed “as many miles as they could” on their breaks in support of men’s mental health month, Movember.
The students spent their breaks and lunches to row 55 miles.
Rachel White, a spokesperson for the school, said: “ICA are very proud of all of the students who took part in our Move for Movember Rowing challenge.”
The challenge aimed for the students to row 60 miles in five days for the 60 men, who lost their lives every hour globally, due to mental health and cancer related illnesses.
Movember is an international event aiming to raise awareness of men’s health issues including mental health, suicide, prostate cancer and testicular cancer.
Many people grow a moustache for the cause however this school found their own way.
She said: “The students came back day after day and put in as many miles as they could in the short time we have during our break and lunchtimes.”
A dedicated group of year 8 boys rowed 35 miles between them with other year groups pitching in as well.
“Our students love getting involved in anything which requires physical challenge and contributing to raising money towards for a great cause.”
Year 7 student Neve at the school said: “Having the opportunity to row to help others feels great.
“I felt proud of myself for giving up my time to take part and can’t wait for the next challenge like this.”
