Eccles Salvation Army has urged Salfordians to donate any unwrapped gifts to its Christmas present appeal.
The appeal from the charity on Eccles New Road began in hopes of giving presents to children in need.
Salford borough is the 18th most deprived local authority area in England out of 317.
Nationally around 2.7 million people have to choose between putting food on the table or buying presents for friends and family, and 6.5 million people will struggle to heat their homes sufficiently this festive season.
Sarah Jones, 53, from the Salvation Army spoke about the importance of the Christmas present appeal for children: “We know the children getting them are really in need, so we rely heavily on donation’s from the public.
“We look for brand new gifts, as we don’t want to give second hand because we want the kids to experience Christmas like any other young person.
“We usually look for gifts but we will also take donations, so we can buy anything extra that we need.
“We look to donate to less fortunate children, in the past we have had a list from a couple of care givers such as district nurses and we have just had a couple of requests from one that has a lot of children on her books.”
This Christmas we will be supporting people by:
Providing lunches to older people living alone.
Giving food parcels to struggling families.
Distributing toys to children whose parents can’t afford gifts.

The Salvation Army receives referrals from social workers for children who are really struggling during this period.
The charity is aiming to provide gifts for children of all ages, unwrapped donations from teddy bears, dolls, colouring books, and stocking fillers.
The deadline for donations and gifts is the Monday December 18.
