16:30 Where are they now? Salford City’s EFL Trophy winning side
After COVID-19 postponed The Ammies first shot at a major trophy, their fairy-tale visit to the home of football finally came true in March of 2021.
They topped a tough group containing Bury, Tranmere Rovers and an Aston Villa under 21s that featured current Premier League striker Cameron Archer, who currently plies his trade at Sheffield United.
Comprehensive back to back 3-0 victories against Wolves under 21s and Port Vale set up a quarter final tie against Accrington Stanley where the Ammies ran out 2-1 winners and now only Newport County stood between Salford and a trip to Wembley stadium.

16:00 “You feel violated” – Salford burglary victim issues warning as peak season for break-ins approaches
Grieving Salford families are being invited to get together this week at two events held in support of those who have lost loved ones.
As part of National Grief Awareness Week, Salford Community Libraries are hosting events in partnership with The Good Grief Trust to raising awareness of the impact of grief and to get people talking.

15:30 “You feel violated” – Salford burglary victim issues warning as peak season for break-ins approaches
A woman from Salford whose house was broken into has issued a warning to the community as the peak season for burglaries approaches.
Tracey, a pharmacist technician, is urging Salfordians to be weary of the fact that the number of potential burglars in the area will skyrocket over the coming weeks.
Her statement comes as figures were released this week from police data which has revealed that January is the month that most people are at risk of burglary, not the Christmas period, as is widely assumed.

15:00 The Lowry’s Life of Pi opening night cancelled
The first performance of Life of Pi’s festive run at The Lowry has been cancelled due to cast illness.
The Lowry posted a statement on X (formerly Twitter) stating: “Unfortunately this evening’s performance of Life of Pi has been cancelled due to cast illness. Customers with tickets for tonight’s show should contact the box office to exchange their tickets or obtain a refund.

14:30 Salford ice hockey physio reacts to compulsory neck guards
A Salford-based ice hockey physio has welcomed the new rules which make neck guards compulsory in the sport worldwide.
The physio, Bob Bramah, said: “Some players may find them uncomfortable at first but that applied to previous innovations such as helmets and visors. Players get used to them. Anything that helps to prevent injuries should be welcomed.”
When Adam Johnson died shortly after an on ice incident in late October, the sporting world stood still.

14:00 Charity psychic night held in Walkden in aid of St Ann’s Hospice – “I’m celebrating my grandparents and celebrating a really great charity”
Megan Whittaker is hosting her third charity psychic night on December 15 to give back to St Ann’s Hospice for the care her grandparents received.
The psychic night held in November last year raised over £1,200 for the hospice and Megan is hoping to raise more this Christmas.
The event will be held at Walkden Legion (Wilfred Rd, Walkden M38 3AJ) and will start at 7.30pm

13:45″I won’t give up until it’s done” – Ryan Brierley’s bold move with Salford Red Devils
In 2023 he’s made 29 appearances, 18 try contributions and now a three year contract deal. 31-year-old fullback, Ryan Brierley will be continuing his rugby career with Salford Red Devils after signing a three year deal – and he couldn’t be happier.
After winning Supporters’ Player and Coaches’ Player of the Year at the end of last season, it seems the Devils weren’t ready to let go of Ryan just yet and he wasn’t ready to let go of them either.

13:30 Salford’s Lowry Theatre has agreed to host the return sequel of the hugely successful Cluedo stage show this coming year in April.
Over 1000 years ago, Vikings used to rule the lands we now call Salford. Whilst most of the traces of their existence have gone, a group from Worsley are keeping the Norse culture alive.
The Ydalir Vikings are the Salford and Manchester chapter of a national network of dark ages re-enactors. They re-enact battles and teach visitors how people in Britain lived during the time of the Danelaw, the name for the Danish occupation of the North of England.
The name Ydalir translates to Yew Dales, the land home to the Norse God of Winter, Ullr. The land was known to be eternally damp, reflecting the less than ideal weather of Salford.

13:00 Ken Sio has left the Red Devils claiming compassionate leave as the reason for the departure.
In an official statement the club said: “We can confirm that the club have granted Ken Sio his release from Salford Red Devils on compassionate grounds, bringing to an end a magnificent five-year stay at the club.
“Adored by the fanbase and well-respected by all his teammates, Sio has been a consistent, high-quality performer for the Red Devils since his move from the Newcastle Knights in late-2018.”

12:45 “Will you be brave and bold and withstand the cold?”- Uswim host their annual charity swim for St Ann’s Hospice
St Ann’s Hospice is teaming up with Uswim for its long established New Year’s Day swim.
The charity plunge will take place at Dock 9, MediaCityUK, Salford Quays2, on January 1 2024, for the 12th year in a row. It is described as the perfect hangover cure for adult swimmers.
The uber-friendly crowd and iconic Lowry Theatre backdrop guarantees top pics and crazy fun.

12:30 Acoustic Amnesty charity gig to hit Sacred Trinity Church
Sacred Trinity Church on Chapel Street in Salford are hosting a charity gig by Acoustic Amnesty this Friday (December 5).
The event aims to raise money for Safe Passage UK, a refugee charity, as well as the group’s regular charity, Amnesty International.
Steven Lindsay, event organiser for Acoustic Amnesty, said: “Our goal is to entertain our audience, make people happy and raise money for good causes.
“The audience can expect six great performers in a great, historic space where the acoustics allow a totally unplugged, un-amplified experience.”

12:15 Salford children in top 3 worst affected by two-child benefit limit
Salford families are the third worst affected in the country by the two-child benefit limit, according to figures from the End Child Poverty Coalition.
Data shows that 20 per cent of Salford families are affected by the ruling that parents are not able to claim child tax credit or universal credit for more than two children born after April 2017.
This also shows that there is a link between the two-child limit and areas that have the highest rates of child poverty.

12:00 Police appeal for information after teenage girl sexually assaulted in Broughton
Police were called to reports of a teenage girl who had been the victim of a sexual assault in Broughton just before 8.30pm on Sunday (December 3).
It is believed that the attack occurred in an alleyway between Howe Street and Back Howe Street. The victim was approached by a man and turned into the alleyway, he then caught up with the girl before threatening and assaulting her.
The man has been described as a white male dressed in all black with a black face covering. Detectives believe that the man came away from the scene towards Great Clowes Street and enquiries remain ongoing to trace him.
11:30 No serious injuries reported after bus crashes into Eccles bridge
No serious injuries have been reported after a bus crashed into a bridge in Eccles.
Police were called to the scene on Barton Lane at around 7:20am this morning (Tuesday).
The bus didn’t have any passengers on board at the time, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson confirmed.
The road is currently blocked in both directions, with emergency services on scene.
