Salford City FC academy scholars will be serving Christmas meals at Broughton House Veteran Care Village to give back the local veteran community this festive period.
The new initiative is a part of the club’s life skills programme, a scheme that promotes giving back to the local community and raising awareness of how football clubs, and those representing it can be more inclusive.
Last week two generations came together as two of Broughton House’s veterans spoke to Salford City’s academy scholars about their life experiences. David and Peter, who are both approaching their 100th birthdays in the coming days and weeks discussed the importance of leadership, togetherness and discipline.
This was no doubt an invaluable experience for the scholars, who were lucky enough to speak to two men who made the ultimate commitment to their country.
In the next few weeks the scholars will pay a visit to David, Peter and many more veterans at the care home, where they will spend time chatting and playing games.
At the start of December, the residents will visit The Peninsula Stadium where Salford’s upcoming stars will serve Christmas dinner as the club continues to engage with and offer help to the local community.
Since 1916, Broughton House have offered a ‘home from home’ for over 8,000 servicemen and women including members of the British Armed Forces, Merchant Navy, Reserve Forces, those conscripted for National Service and family members of anyone who has ever served.
Broughton House offer a diverse range of activities aimed at maximizing quality of life and ensuring residents enjoy every day to its fullest.
Jack Stephenson, marketing coordinator at Broughton House, commented: “We are incredibly grateful to the Salford City FC Academy for choosing to support our charity as a part of their life for skills programme.
“Our veterans are very much looking forward to getting to know the scholars over the next few weeks and we really hope to be able to build on our relationship with the club going into the future.”
