St Ann’s Hospice is challenging everyone to complete 12,000 steps on December 1st in festive attire to raise money for the charity.
Walk, run or jog, the event is free to sign up for everyone with all proceeds going to help those with life-limiting illnesses in Greater Manchester.
Marie Foster, who is a volunteer for St Ann’s Hospice and taking on the challenge, said: “12,000 steps will be a real challenge for me, but it’ll be worth it for such a good cause.”
“I’ve taken part in all the St Ann’s Hospice virtual challenges, as I love walking and I love fundraising for the hospice. I’m really excited to put my Christmas jumper on and “Step Into Christmas” on December 1st.”
St Ann’s Hospice provides holistic care to patients with life-limiting illnesses, including therapy, supportive services and community and outreach services from its site Little Hulton, Salford.
Marie further said, “The hospice needs £20,000 a day to run and because we’re one party funded by the NHS, funding is really important to the hospice.”
Additionally, the hospice’s Community Specialist Palliative Care Team is located in Salford.
A 24-hour telephone advice line is also available to patients, careers and healthcare professionals in Greater Manchester.
The hospice building in Heald Green is 150 years old, and St Ann’s aim to raise the final £2 million they need to build a new hospice next door to their current building.
