The Salford Rum Company has recently opened a stall at the Manchester Christmas Markets this festive season.
Starting off at the Makers Markets in MediaCity to achieving a position at the Manchester Christmas Markets this year shows massive growth for the business.
One employee, Hallam Oakes said: “It’s a big thing getting onto the Christmas markets, it’s not something a lot of small businesses can do, you know it’s going well to get on here.”
The local rum company started back in 2018 after two friends decided they didn’t have many options for spiced rum, so they decided to make their own.
This was inspired by the history of the Salford Dock workers throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s, as they would have brought in spices, fruit, and rum, therefore they wanted to place their own twist on this.
Oakes added: “We managed to get our distillery relocated, that’s been really important for us as we do events there, like rum tasting, and doodle classes with Dave Draws, who designed our bottles.”
He also highlighted the work they’ve done to raise money for charities such as the Salford Lads Club.
The Salford Rum Company having its own independent stall at the city’s Christmas markets, allows customers to have a taste of their famous rum. The flavours range from spiced rum, white rum, honey rum, and dark rum.
Jacob Milnes, a 22-year-old resident of Salford, said: “It’s the first time I’ve seen this stall at the Christmas markets, and I really enjoyed being able to taste different rums before I decided to buy the spiced rum, as well as one of the gift sets for my mum for Christmas.”
The prices for a bottle of 70cl rum range between £25-£34, but the company is offering customers tasters as well as gift sets that would be the perfect present for family members this Christmas, as well as an opportunity to taste the many rums they have on offer before purchase.
