Irlam has very much had a mixed start to the season with the Salford-based club looking to eclipse their 17th place finish from last season.

As it stands, Irlam currently sit 18th in the Premier Division of the North West Counties Football League however, the current position in the table isn’t necessarily as concerning as it looks when context is considered.

John Main’s men have only played 17 games with several teams that sit above them having played multiple more games.

The five teams who sit above Irlam have played at least three more games than them with Padiham and Pilkington, who sit 17th and 16th in the table, having 22 and 23 games played this season.

As of late, Irlam are on a fairly good run of form only having one defeat and three wins in their last six games.

As far as cup competitions go, Irlam still remain in The Macron Cup and The Isuzu FA Vase with Irlam recording their biggest win of the season in the latest round of The Isuzu FA Vase in a 6-1 away victory against Seaham Red Star.

Irlam were knocked out in the first round of the Manchester Premier Cup after a 2-1 away defeat to Wythenshawe Town.

They are also now out of The Emirates FA Cup following a 1-0 away defeat against Goole AFC in a replay of the preliminary round after initially drawing 3-3 with the Yorkshire-based side.

For goals, Declan Daniels leads the way by some distance with the Irlam forward scoring 33 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions.

Irlam will hope to build on their recent run of form and make the most of the games in hand they have over the teams above them in the table with Irlam’s next fixture being an away match against Wythenshawe Town tomorrow at 7:45pm.
