16:01 – Police appealing for information for a man last seen at Salford Quays. 

Greater Manchester Police are appealing for information regarding a man who was last seen in the Salford, specifically Salford Quays.

Last seen on the Sunday 15th October at 3am, the police are conducting enquiries regarding Julius’s safety.

Described as a black man in his 40’s, he was last seen in Blue jeans, black jacket and a wooly hat.

The police are requesting that if anyone with information should make contact through 101 or through Live Chat on gmp.police.uk.


15:50 – Salford Fire Team encourages residents to dispose of unused fireworks

Salford Fire Team has called on the public to use its firework amnesty hotline to dispose of unused fireworks.

Fireworks legally went on sale in the UK from 15 October at GMFRS selected vendors and the fire service have a Firework Safety Code to keep unused fireworks safe at home.

These include buying fireworks that meet safety standards marked CE, storing them in a metal box, keeping distance when lit and keeping water in a bucket nearby.

Salford Fire Team shared the GMFRS firework amnesty hotline on social media and it can be contacted on 0800 555 815.

15:26 – Cost of living cutbacks could see homes hit hard by Storm Ciaran

With Storm Ciaran approaching, the prospect of falling trees, fences and flying roof tiles, there could be a lot of inevitable damages for communities in Salford and the UK.

And due to the cost of living crisis, experts worry that homeowners may not be spending on essential home and garden maintenance due to the increase in living costs.

While Storm Ciaran is fast approaching, the UK is likely to face many more storms this winter so it’s never too late to assess potential issues in your home and garden.

People are encouraged to check for loose fence panels, secured guttering, strong guttering, loose tiles and learn how to turn off home utilities.


15:00 – Salford Red Devils sign try scorer Ethan Ryan on a three-year deal

Ethan Ryan takes his first steps in the Salford Red Devils home stadium.

Salford Red Devils have this morning announced the capture of former Bradford Bulls and Hull KR winger Ethan Ryan.

Ryan who is known for being a prolific try scorer, will be a useful tool for the Red Devils, having the ability to play multiple positions.

And with management of Paul Rowley, will certainly develop his already impressive game.

And in joining Salford, the Ireland International will be hoping to continue his promising development.

14:46 – UK’s first multi-charity pre-loved fashion store is coming to Salford this November 

Salford Quays will be the new home for Charity Super.Mkt, when the pop-up store comes to Quayside MediaCity, offering pre-loved fashion.

The store is set to open on Thursday 2nd November at 6pm, having its first full day from Friday 3rd November.

The very first Charity Super.Mkt opened in the old Topshop in Brent Cross in January 2023, and has since then become so popular in the south of the country.

And after selling 100,000 second hand items in six months, the Charity Super.Mkt will venture up north, with MediaCity becoming its first destination.

They are currently looking for volunteers to help run the store.


14:25 – An Event to be held on Sunday to help women understand Men’s mental health

On Sunday 5th November, the Jamie Horrock’s Trust will host an event on Sunday to help women understand Men’s mental health.

The trust was found by Jamie’s sister, Tammy Pike after he took his own life at the age of 36, running to support and bring awareness to men’s mental health.

The trust has seen an increase in openness about mental health since it first began in 2014.

The trust provides £20,000 a year to fund Lads Den in Manchester, which runs every Tuesday and builds peer support among boys, under the guidance of trained mental health workers.

13:54 – Children’s hospice has reopened its seasonal store for the 17th time in Salford Quays

A children’s hospice has reopened its seasonal store for the 17th time in Salford Quays in an urgent bid to raise funds.

Francis House, an organisation that cares for children with life-limiting conditions across Greater Manchester, including in Salford, opened its ‘Festival of Christmas Trees’ pop-up shop at Quayside Media City on Saturday.

With the rise in cost of living, it is impacting communities around Salford more than ever, with over 20,000 families looking to the city’s council for support this year according to GOV UK.

Charities like this are fundamental in providing lifelines to Greater Manchester families with poorly children that may be struggling this Christmas.

13:22 – Salford City face toughest challenge tonight against Man United Under-21’s

Salford City will prepare for a difficulty fixture tonight against Manchester United Under-21’s at the Peninsula.

The Ammies currently sit bottom of their group, will be looking to turnaround the competition form against the academy side.

With Neil Wood’s side coming off the back of a 0-0 draw to Barrow, they will be looking at this fixture with one eye on the weekends fixture against Peterborough in the FA Cup.

The fixture should be a big one regardless, with the Man United been known for breeding young stars like Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho, there may be a few future stars featuring tonight.


12:54 – Jordan McCann set to go on Freedom Tour this November

Salford’s Jordan McCann is set to go on a solo tour this upcoming month around the UK.

From Little Hutlon, the rapper gained his success from the song ‘Lifestyle’ which has turned his life into a career in music away from a life in crime.

The rapper will be touring around the UK, where audiences can find him between the 7th November to the 15th December.

Touring in 15 cities, opening with Belfast, and visiting Newcastle, Liverpool and London throughout the tour.

And he will be returning to Greater Manchester on the 24th November, where he will play at the O2 Ritz.


12:26 – Salford locals urged not to dump Halloween pumpkins to protect wildlife

Salford communities have been urged not to leave their Jack-o’-lantern’s in their gardens or the countryside to rot.

The big concern for proper disposal of the Halloween Pumpkins is because of the danger it poses to the environment and animals.

With hedgehogs, birds and other animals getting ill from the potential toxins from the pumpkins.

Locals have been requested to dispose of pumpkins correctly in compost bins and council food waste bins.


12:06 – Irlam FC game postponed due to water logged pitch

Irlam FC have had their fixture postponed against FC Isle of Man due to a water logged pitch.

With the rainfall going on through most of Monday and last night it has led to parts of the field flooding with water.

This is the second postponement this month, with the weather being the issue both times.

The North West Football County side have made fans aware that the fixture against the FC Isle of Man will be rescheduled and more details will be released as soon as possible.


11:55 – Government make a U-turn on ticket office closures

Eccles train station ticket office has avoided closure after plans to remove them has been scrapped.

This decision comes after Transport Secretary Mark Harper said the proposals from the train operators failed to meet high passenger standards.

The train station that opened on the 15th September 1830, will continue to use a ticket office, and help many customers travel across the country.

Eccles Labour shared their delight on Twitter, thanking everyone that took part in the consultation.


11:30 – Emergency Services are urging communities to prevent anti-social behaviour this Bonfire Night

The Salford Fire Department have joined the Bang Out of Order campaign, in hope of reducing anti-social behaviour during the Bonfire Night Period.

Greater Manchester police are aiming to reduce the number of hoax calls, attacks to emergency staff and deliberate fires this year.

With 15 firefighters being attacked and 1,366 fires started deliberately in 2022.

And although attacks are declining, there has been an increase in hoax calls and deliberate fires.

With emergency services reminding the public that assaults, anti-social behaviour and arson will not be tolerated and offenders could be jailed or fined.
