Salford Community and Voluntary Service, alongside other Greater Manchester voluntary groups, have launched a new scheme to encourage walking in the region.
The Greater Manchester Walking and Wheeling Fund Grants Programme is offering local voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) groups up to £5,000 this autumn and winter run by 10GM.
The fund aims to “improve the health and wellbeing of communities in Greater Manchester by encouraging those less active or inactive to walk or wheel regularly.”
Funded by GM Moving, it offers small grants of £2,000 and medium grants of £5,000 to groups to deliver its aims, which also include increasing awareness of GM Walking, an information hub for encouraging physical health.
10GM want to encourage people with disabilities, ethnic minority backgrounds and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds to engage with physical activities.
Another aim is to recruit ‘Walking Champions’, people who will encourage and inspire people to walk regularly.
Community Interest Companies can also apply, with only organisations new to the medium fund able to apply for the £5,000 grant.
Deadlines for the first stage of small grants end at midday on Friday October 20, with other stages ending in November and December.
Medium grants must also be submitted by Monday November 6, with decisions for funding expected in late November.
This latest campaign is the third round of funding, with the initial launch coming in 2020.
According to the fund’s ‘Meet The Funder’ meeting, £220,000 of funding was distributed amongst 89 groups in the first round.
Organisations can apply to the fund via the 10GM walking website, found here.
