A rugby pitch in Eccles has been vandalised for the third time this year in a “disheartening” act.
Eccles Rugby Football Club reported on October 8 that two of its cross bars on their pitch had been bent out of shape. Because of this, the pitch has been deemed as “completely unusable” until the correct fixtures are made.
Mindless vandalism. Both crossbars bent. To put it bluntly, this ongoing, deliberate, criminal damage is preventing the club from providing sport for children in our community. If you have any info on the identity of those responsible please inform the Police. Thank you. pic.twitter.com/YXjDZc6kZg

Chair of Eccles RFC, Christopher Gaffey, said: “In summary, their mindless violence means the pitch can’t be played on and that is stopping us playing games of rugby.
“We have four pitches at our disposal at the club but now we’ve only got three that are usable and that’s becoming a problem.
“We’re facing the uncomfortable fact that we may have to postpone games, or cancel games or move games to an away fixture.”
The cross bars have been bent a few times before but were re-bent back into place this late summer. However the bars have now been bent for a third time.
President of Eccles RFC, Alan Bent, stated: “For something like this to happen it’s very disheartening when we’re doing so much for the community and certain members are doing this.”
The club is currently reviewing CCTV footage and requests for anyone who might hold further information about the incident to contact them.
