The conference is being held at the Lowry Theatre and is being hosted by the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham.

16:07: Walkden pitches vandalised for the third time in 12 months

North Walkden posted a tweet last night describing how four of their Amblecote pitches were vandalised by off road bikes.

The treasurer of North Walkden FC described how this isn’t the first time this has happened. He said: “It’s a regular occurrence. Last season, the pitches were out for the whole season due to the vandalism, so it’s no shock.”

15:21: New meet up events to be held at Orsdall Cafe for Salford community

The events will be hosted by Munchyhub, a family-owned coffee shop on Phoebe Street, with the cafe providing free food and drinks for people attending.

The event is aimed at people in the area who would like to make new friends and meet their neighbours.

People who are interested in signing up to one of the upcoming events will need to go in to the cafe and asked to be added to their WhatsApp group.

15:08: Salford midfielder Matty Lund looks shares his thoughts on Salford’s upcoming game against Sutton United.

Salford City travel to London to play their away fixture against Sutton United tomorrow (3rd October) following a 2-1 home victory vs Newport County.

Lund predicts it will once again be a tough clash against Sutton, with the midfielder saying: “We had a tough game there last year and we managed to win. We know what it’s going to be like, it’s going to be a battle again.”

14:05: Regent Retail Park Redevelopment Update: Salford residents to be consulted again

Henley investments have invited Salford residents to their second phase of discussions so they can “incorporate resident’s comments and suggestions into the new masterplan.”

The redevelopment would mean a large part of the current Regent Retail Park being demolished.

Around five acres of public open space would open up as a result of the redevelopment, as well as up to 3,200 new homes, and almost 10,00 sq meteres of community and commercial space.

Burnham urges people to stay focused on the goal of creating a sustainable future and said: “We don’t want a culture war in Greater Manchester.”


12:15: Andy Burnham emphasises the importance of transitioning away from cars and towards public transport

A Twitter thread from Greener Greater Manchester is providing live updates from the summit with it describing Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham urging people to back the newly launched Bee network with Burnham saying: “The world has been designed for drivers for a long time and it’s not going to get us where we need to.”

The Bee network launched last month meaning a return to buses being under public ownership for the first time in almost 40 years.

Local authorities will have control of several aspects of the new yellow buses including the routes, timetables and fares.

Burnham emphasises the need for huge innovation in order to give young people in Greater Manchester a pathway into the green economy as an alternative to university.
