Salford City have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup after a 4-0 defeat to Burnley.

The Ammies have now gone six games without a win, as Kompany’s side cruised through to advance to the next round.

The game began with a roaring atmosphere in the Peninsula Stadium home and away ends having a battle of chants.

On the pitch, the Ammies looked comfortable in the opening 10 minutes, allowing Burnley to control the ball.

The game plan was to hold off and soak up the pressure of the Premier League side.

But unfortunately for Neil Wood, that all changed within the 11th minute of the game when Burnley winger Wilson Odobert was able to get down the wing and win a corner.

The inswinging corner cut right into the Salford penalty area, Sander Berge towering over the defence to head it past the keeper for the opener.

There was a clear difference in quality, with the Premier League side being so dangerous with the change in pace.

Kompany’s side proved this with their ability to go from a slow build-up to an instantly dangerous attack.

And this proved evident in the 20th minute, with the Clarets working it so neatly in the final third before Anass Zaroury flicked the ball through to an open Bruun Larsen, lobbing it over the Salford keeper.

But it only went from bad to worse for Neil Wood’s side, and after eight minutes, the deficit grew to three.

As Tosin Olopade gave a free kick away, it allowed the very talented Zaroruy to curl the ball into the box, going through the legs of the Salford keeper, leaving a very surprised Dara O’Shea to grab a tap in.

With the Ammies going into halftime 3-0 down, it looked like an impossible comeback, being shown the exit to the competition.

However, the second half started with Burnley once again starting on the front foot, with an early few chances forcing Alex Cairns to make some sharp stops.

Neil Wood’s side was always second best in this competition but proved themselves to be more capable.

With McAleny played through in the 51st minute, he had an opportunity to shoot at the Burnley goal but was denied by both Cork and O’Shea.

But with Burnley having a three-goal lead, the Premier League was able to keep themselves at arm’s length from the Ammies.

Although there were some positives from the match, the substitute Kelly Nmai, was an inspiration for attacking when he entered the field.

With the Salford winger commanding the left-hand side and causing many problems to no avail.

But unfortunately for the Ammies, the goalless second half couldn’t last forever, Burnley extended their lead to four.

With the star play for Burnley, Zaroruy crossed the ball into the box to find an alone Odobert, who thrashed the ball home for the 4-0.

The Burnley was able to see off a hattrick of assists to send the Clarets into the round of 16 for the fourth consecutive year.

As for Salford, the defeat now sees Neil Wood’s side without a win in six, and fans will begin to worry if this run continues.

The Ammies have to look towards their next fixture against Newport County to find some points on the board currently sat in 21st.
