After yet another poor result at home, Salford City boss Neil Wood admitted that his team’s lack of ruthlessness in attacking positions is costing them.
Wood’s side fell to a 2-1 defeat after dominating large parts of the game before conceding two second half goals and letting what seemed like a comfortable lead slip.
He said: “We should go in two or three goals up at half-time and it cost us in the end. It’s a real learning curve, we have to finish teams off.
“We started the second half slow, let them come onto us, it was naïve the goals are very poor goals to concede, it’s very frustrating.”
Walsall got back into the game thanks to some questionable marking following the taking of a quick free kick that led to Freddie Draper finding himself free at the back post and then eventually got their winner through Oisin McEntee.
Wood’s side have been hampered by injuries this season and he provided an update on last seasons star man and player of the year Elliot Watt who is currently sidelined.
He continued: “We lost Elliot just before pre-season which was frustrating, hopefully we can get him back training with the team in the coming weeks.
“We’re only 7 games in and if you look last season, we were close to the top at this stage, things can change quickly.”
But, with hard games against high flying teams including newly promoted Notts County on Friday Salford need to improve, but Neil Wood insists there is no need to panic at the moment.
