The repair works at Lark Hill Primary School, totalling more than £350,000 and proposed to take 12 weeks to complete, will be voted on by the Council’s procurement board.

The proposed scheme would see work carried out on the school’s playing field, which the council says has been out of commission for the last 12 months.

Issues emerged with the playing field in 2021 when the Authorities Structures Department found evidence of sinking in part of the playing field at the school.

The school was forced to completely close the playing field when further “depressions” were found in the surrounding area while waiting for the results of further testing.

A review of historic data found that the field used to be the site of Victorian terraced housing and an associated highway that had been demolished to make way for a school.

An investigation found that the sinking of parts of the playing field is as a result of the basements of the demolished houses collapsing under ground and filling up with rain water.

The full report, which will be voted on during a meeting on September 13, can be found here.
