Salford Manager Neil Wood expressed his delight for the club following the historic win against Leeds United.
The Ammies enter the third round for the first time after taking the Championship side to penalties to win the game.
Salford took the lead through former Leeds forward Matt Smith in the 34th minute to take them into halftime.
The shock lead resulted in Neil Wood’s side having to defend and dig deep to advance, especially after conceding a 76th-minute equaliser from Pascal Struijk.
Nonetheless, it was the retaken 20th penalty of the shootout from Ossama Ashley that sent them through 9-8.

Neil Wood reflected after the game saying: “We are proud to get through to the next round.”
He went on to add praise to the squad’s disciplined performance saying: “Yeah, they did dig deep and they had to.
“They caused us a lot of problems and we really had to match that and defend resolutely.”
And with Leeds firing 33 shots towards the Salford net, Neil added: “You know it’s been a really hard night and a lot of hard work.”
But with the Ammies taking the Championship side to penalties, Neil went on to say: “What I can say is that the last two cup rounds, Preston and tonight our penalties have been outstanding.
“I think we’ve learned the harsh lesson of the playoffs.”
The Ammies will now have to wait for tonight’s Carabao Cup draw to find out who they will play next in the competition.
With the third round commencing on the 25th of September, the competition will strengthen with teams who qualified for Europe entering the pot.
However, for now, the Ammies will hope to use this victory as further motivation ahead of Saturday’s game, as they travel to Morecambe to continue their winning ways.
