Salford’s Peel Park Pavilion has received a two-day restoration thanks to 17 apprentices and a number of community groups.
The efforts saw the pavilion receive new compost bins, treatment of the site’s sleeper wall, and fresh paint for the park’s gates and railings.
17 newly hired apprentices from Bolton-based contractor, Seddon, took part in the project, alongside community organisation CommUNITY Little Hulton, Salford Council, ForHousing, Kenny Waste Management and Suez.
Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett said: “A big thank you goes to Seddon for providing these important opportunities for apprentices to learn in our great city. The park was originally opened in 1910 and is one of Salford’s oldest parks. It will benefit from this much-needed maintenance work, while apprentices learn new skills on site.”
The clean-up hoped to restore one of the city’s oldest park to its former glory, from when it opened more than 110 years ago.
Nicola Hodkinson, owner and director at Seddon said: “We’re committed to continually investing in the next generation of construction workers and are equally committed to improving the communities we work in.
“We’re proud to welcome the new apprentices into the business by supporting a key asset to the Salford community.”
