Salford City midfielder Stevie Mallan is focused ahead of the new season, as they look for promotion to League One.
Salford City are set to play Forest Green and will be hoping they are fully prepared for the opening weekend.
The Salford midfielder reflected on the club’s preseason: “It’s been good, it’s been tough, every preseason is and always hard and long.
“There’s a lot of running and a lot of training and tactical work to get the season started.”
The Ammies will be looking for a positive start to the season, with Mallan adding: “We have to put a stamp on the league and try to get as many wins as possible.
“If you don’t do that at the start of the season it can be tough to claw back, especially with the league this year.”
And the Ammies will want to start quickly following the disappointment that came at the end of the season, with a defeat in the play-off semi-finals to Stockport County.
Stevie Mallan went on to add: “It was a tough one to take obviously after losing to Stockport, the boys were taking it quite hard.
“It is easy to say but we have to use that as a fuel going into the start of this season.”
This will be very important for the Ammies, as he noted the strength of the teams in the league this season: “The league this year is very very competitive and anyone can get promoted this year.”
This can also be due to the recent promotion of popular Wrexham FC and Notts County from the National League.
But the Salford midfielder is more than ready for the start of this season: “It was a tough one for me last year getting injured at the tailed end of preseason, so I am one up from last season.”
And despite being injured for the most part of the season the 27-year-old made 14 appearances and contributed three goals in the league for the Ammies.
Also, he scored in the semi-finals of the unsuccessful playoffs last season.
Mallan will be hoping to continue to make an impact at the start of this campaign: “I’ve got to now stay fit, it’s just about adding goals and assists to my game.
“As a person that’s what I want to do and what I can bring to the team.”
