A planning application for a 26-storey in Salford has been approved by council members.
The £53m project, Obsidian, which will see land bound by Trinity Way and William Street become 250 flats, was approved last Thursday (20 July) during a planning committee meeting. The scheme will feature 93 one-, 111 two-, and 15 three-bedroom apartments, as well as 31 studios.
Planning permission for the build, a joint project between Salyboy and Domis, was submitted in April and features nearly 1,000 sq ft of commercial space, including co-working areas. There will be no on-site car parking provided, however there will be 125 cycle spaces.
The accommodation fails to fall within the “affordable homes” bracket, however the applicant has agreed to make a £1m contribution towards affordable housing provision elsewhere in Salford city centre.
Planners also gave permission to plans to build 100 Passivhaus homes at Peru Street in Salford.
Plans for the project have been approved, subject to regulations.
Construction is expected to last up to two and a half years, creating up to 293 jobs a year. An exact date for the commencement of the build is yet to be confirmed.
