A one-off clothes swap shop event is being organised at Salford Shopping Centre thanks to a local charity.
The event, which will be held in the former Argos unit at the centre, is set to take place on Saturday 29 July from 1-4pm.
The clothes swap is open to both men and women and tickets can be purchased in advance to attend. Visitors can bring along up to 10 garments, where they’ll receive a token per item. The clothes swap works the same way as a store, where guests can browse the rails, try on clothing of interest, and check out using the tokens acquired.
Items brought along to the event are graded into ‘Great’ and ‘Good’ categories. ‘Great’ includes high-end, vintage or designer whilst ‘Good’ are high-street brands and everything else.
Giving an opportunity for Salfordians to empty out their wardrobes, the sustainable and eco-friendly event was organised by the community initiative Stitched Up.
Bryony Moore, Outreach Coordinator for Stitched Up, said: “We’re delighted to be able to bring the Clothes Swap to Salford Shopping Centre; lots of our customers and community live in and around Salford, so it’s an ideal location for the event to take place.
“We want to show how easy it is to dress well without relying on mass-produced fast fashion. The pace of clothing manufacture is a huge issue, and some say that there’s enough clothing already in existence to clothe the next six generations!
“Clothes swaps are such a great alternative because you get that same feeling of going shopping, but without adding more items to your wardrobe or spending loads of money buying new stuff. Where else can you get ten new items of clothing for just £6.50?
“Not only that, but swaps also help you embrace your own unique sense of style and you’ll discover things you’d never find in the shops.”
Tickets are advance booking only and cost £6.50 and can be purchased here.
Clothing may show some signs of wear, but make sure they are free from bobbling, stains, rips, damage or pet hair. Accessories are also welcome – a bag or a pair of shoes count as one item. Underwear and swimwear is not accepted.
