A new report has shown a 12% increase of reported crime in Salford between April 2022 – March 2023 compared to the previous year.
The report, set to be discussed by the Overview and Scrutiny board of Salford City Council on Wednesday shows that there were 34,372 reported crimes in the time period, an increase of over 3500 from between April 2021 and March 2022.
The report found that overall there was an increase of violence (12%,) stealing (13%,) theft from vehicles (7%,) theft of vehicles (3%) and public order offences (7%.)
The report did however find that Burglary dwelling (9%,) hate crime (-1 report,) and Anti-Social behaviour (14%) had all decreased in the same time period.
The report also found that the ward of Pendleton and Charlestown was the most common place for five of the eight crime categories listed in the report and had the most crime reported overall of any Salford ward.
Pendleton and Charlestown accounted for over 10% of all crime reported in the time frame with 3,409 reports.
The report states:
“Community safety remains a priority for Salford. With the changing nature to more serious and complex crime, an effective Community Safety Partnership is essential. A refreshed strategic plan for 2020-23 has been developed”
The report will be discussed in a council meeting on Wednesday July 5th.
