A Salford-based rum company have been awarded a top score for their spiced tipples in a Good Housekeeping competition.
Salford Rum received 87/100 in the 2023 Spiced Rum awards, sharing the top spot with Bacardi’s Caribbean variant.
The competition was judged blindly by 10 ‘Rum Experts’, who tasted 35 spiced brands to find the smoothest and easy-drinking winner.
In response to the win, Salford Rum shared an Instagram post thanking the judges for their support. It read: “[Excited] to share that our Original Spiced Rum has been awarded the top score of 87/100 in Good Housekeeping 2023 Spiced Rum review.
“It’s a great to be recognised by Good Housekeeping as it’s an independent award (no application process or entry fee).
“Ok, we may not have been given the number one spot, but we did equal the score of top spot, so we might just claim joint first is that’s ok?”
Narrowly missing out on the top spot was Rumbullion’s Spiced Caramel, which scored 84 alongside Diablese’s Spiced Clementine.
Also falling short of the mark were CUT (77/100), Foursquare (77/100), and Morrisons Spiced Rum (70/100).
Spiced Rum, which is proving a popular drink for the summer, is often sweeter than golden or dark styles, thanks to the addition of tropical fruits such as pineapple, banana and orange.
