An application to construct a 52-foot 5G telecoms mast in Salford Quays has been refused.

The motion comes after CK Hutchison Networks (UK) Limited submitted an application to “determine if prior approval” for the mast’s construction on Broadway was needed.

The application, which was submitted on May 2, was turned down by planning officers.

Oasis Academy, MediaCityUK and Media City Nature Kindergarten were all identified as being within 300 metres of the proposed site, on the corner of the roundabout near the Lime Scooter port.

As well as this, under planning law, all telecommunications masts must be below 49.2 ft or 15 metres.

The debate around the mast comes six months after Three mobile planned to erect a mast on the corner of Boothshall Way and Leigh Rd opposite the Coal & Cotton.
