This year has already seen Salfordians treated to blinding sunshine at both We Invented the Weekend festival, and Irlam Live. So, in the spirit of all things summer, here’s a round-up of some festivals and events that the city has to offer this June to September.

June:

Portugal and Portuguese-speaking Community Festival: Saturday 10 June

This Saturday is set to see the Portuguese-speaking community from across Salford and the North of England gather at Ordsall Park to celebrate their heritage. Hosted for the FIRST time in Salford, the free festival is set to welcome Brazilian, Portuguese, Nicaraguan, and Venezuelan food, as well as music from DJs and performers.

UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival: Saturday 17 June

This year’s UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival will  host amateur and experienced boat racers in a collaboration between Xinhua Chinese Association, Salford City Council and the British Dragon Boat Racing Association.

Alongside water sports, the event will host cultural performances, including tai chi and kung fu as well as lessons in Chinese calligraphy.

The festival will donate 10% of each team’s entry fees to Action for Children; a charity supporting and protecting vulnerable young people in the UK.

Salford’s Pink Picnic: 17-18 June

This year’s celebration of Salford’s LGBTQIA+ community welcomes Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle, as well as Black Peppa, and Hollyoaks star Annie Wallace take to the stage for entertainment and talks.

Expect to see drag, musicians, dancers, DJ’s and powerful words from prominent voices in the community, as well as stalls promoting local groups, organisations and charities, activities and entertainment for families, children, and LGBT+ youth.

Tickets are free and are limited to two per person.

 

July:

Back2the80s: July 14-15

This 80s-themed festival is set to see Spandau Ballet star, Martin Kemp, as headline DJ, alongside tribute acts for Bon Jovi and Whitney Houston.

Coming to Buile Hill park for one weekend, the festival was first hosted in Monton’s New Hill Farm which has since been outgrown.

August:

Patricroft Community Carnival: 18-20 August

This free carnival parade is set to welcome marching bands, stilt walkers, and dancers to the streets of Eccles. The free to attend, family day will also see a dog show take place at Patricroft Conservative Club.

Both indoor and outdoor activities are set to take place throughout the day.

Worsley Live: Saturday 27 August 

Madonna, Elton John, and Taylor Swift tributes, as well as multi-platinum, Brit-nominated dance act Phats & Small are among a crowd of entertainers taking to the stage for this year’s Worsley Live.

Joined by Captain Dan Tastics Pirate Show, The Manchester Experience and Boomin party band, the event will be hosted by Hit’s Radio’s Mike Toolan at Roe Green Cricket club.

September:

Langworthy Live: Saturday 16 September

Langworthy Live is set to welcome back silent discos, singers, and even jugglers to perform in highstreet shops and streets for a third year.

The volunteer-led event will be held across a variety of venues on Langworthy Road and Liverpool Street, including the dry cleaners and the Lash Lounge. With DJs and musicians ensuring the party goes on late into the evening, quiet spaces for relaxation and a cup of tea will also be provided.

Local bands, artists, or anyone with an entertaining act are encouraged to sign up to perform at the event.
