Ethan Galbraith will leave Manchester United upon the exhaustion of his current contract the player and club announced on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old Midfielder currently on loan at Salford City spent six years at United, joining in 2017 as a 16-year-old.

Galbraith wrote on social media: “After 6 years, my time has come to an end with this magnificent club. I want to thank the club, coaching staff & players for helping me become a better player, a better person and for making me feel at home.

“My earliest ambition as a boy was to become a professional footballer and I’m forever grateful to the club for giving me the opportunity and support to fulfil that dream. It’s been a privilege and I feel very fortunate to have been able to represent the club.

“I step into the next chapter of my career a more mature well rounded person and I’m excited for what’s next…”

What is next is exactly what will have grabbed the attention of Ammies fans, who have grown fond of the skilful playmaker over the course of this season.

Joining on loan last September, Galbraith has scored four goals and made three assists in 32 League Two games, being one of the key components of Salford’s title charge.

A free agent starting from the end of this season, many will wonder whether Salford will swoop to make the deal permanent, or if he might head elsewhere.

Born and raised in Northern Ireland, Galbraith was in the Northern Irish team Linfield’s academy when United came calling for his signature.

He made one appearance for the red devils, coming on as a substitute against Astana in the 89th minute of the Europa League in 2019.

He has equally earned two caps for Northern Ireland making his debut in a 1-0 win against Luxembourg in 2019.

The youngster has been full of praise from his managers with former Northern Ireland boss Ian Baraclough likening Galbraith’s style to that of Spanish legends Xavi and Andrés Iniesta.

While still at the time youth coach for Manchester United, Neil Wood said of the midfielder: “Technically, he is unbelievably gifted. He can pick a pass and has all the different varieties of delivery.”

The Ammies will be hoping for some Galbraith magic this Saturday as they head to Edgeley Park to play Stockport in the play-offs.
