A new ‘relaxed hour’ featuring lowered capacity and decreased noise is being introduced at The Lowry theatre to support visitors with additional needs.
Set to take place on Sunday mornings between 10-11am, the hour-long session will see Galleries and exhibition spaces opened at limited capacity to individuals and their families with additional access requirements.
Ambient music and announcements will be reduced throughout the building and ear defenders will be available from the Galleries Welcome Desk.
Michael Simpson, Director of Visual Arts at The Lowry said: “We are happy to be introducing our Relaxed Hours in the Galleries at The Lowry, creating a space where everyone can access art, as we continue responding to the needs of all our visitors. We look forward to welcoming and developing this experience with our visitors.”
A dedicated activity workshop, Relaxed Crafty Families, will also take place on the first Sunday of every month, for families who would prefer a quieter, more relaxed session in mind, specifically those with additional needs, including those who are autistic, are neurodivergent, or have anxiety.
Visitors will be able to enjoy all the exhibition spaces – including The Lowry’s permanent L.S Lowry exhibition and temporary exhibitions, currently Hew Locke’s The Ambassadors – as well as enjoying a quiet space to relax with sensory seating, toys and books, and The Carole Nash Lookout, a space to play and create.
