An eight-year-old rugby player from Cadishead has cycled 120 miles to raise more than £1,000 for his club’s tour.

Cadishead Rhinos Rugby Club’s Oscar Everett ‘Ozzy’ from Salford cycled to his grandparents’ house 120 miles away on the island of Anglesey in north Wales to support his club’s upcoming tour.

He wanted to help his rugby club by raising money to reimburse parents’ payment for the club’s ‘Rhino’s challenge’ rugby tour in May.

Ozy’s mum, Sophie Everett, said: “We wanted to reimburse all the parents, as the rugby tour costs £120 to go, which isn’t cheap. Oscar has raised around £1,150 for the club. We are all very impressed with how much he has managed to raise from his efforts.”

The bike ride was 120 miles across six counties, taking two days to complete.

Oscar said: “I was burnt out after it, even though I had padding my legs really hurt after it. The next day it hurt a lot, but after a while I knew that I had to get used to it as we moved further on. On the first day we managed to do it that fast, and we were able to get to the hotel before it fell dark.”

Sophie said: “It was even hard for me as an adult to complete the journey. It was very challenging at times.

“We stayed in a hotel about halfway, and by the time we had reached it Oscar realised he would have to do the same journey again. His legs shot and he was tired, he’d had enough after it, but he was strong enough to carry on and complete it the following day.

Cadishead Rhinos Ruby Club commented: “Our legend Ozzy has raised a massive £1,122 from his sponsored bike ride from Cadishead HQ to Anglesey. Thank you to everyone who supported him on his mission. He is one happy little boy. Skegness here we come!”
