A couple from Monton who have suffered 11 miscarriages have set up a GoFundMe to raise funds for IVF treatment.
Deri and Gary Baines-White have been married for more than 10 years and, throughout this time, have had 11 miscarriages and two ectopic pregnancies.
The couple met in their mid-thirties and they have been in love ever since.
Deri said that each pregnancy got further along, it made that even more heart-breaking for her when it ended in a loss. Throughout it all Deri and Gary have remained strong. She said: “If we had a child, we would feel complete, it currently feels like something is missing, we really want to start a family.”
“I’d never really been interested in marrying or having children because I never met exactly the right person, and then I met Gary.”
The couple have started a GoFundMe in the hopes of raising enough money to go to Prague where they will seek IVF treatment and hopefully start the family they have longed for since they met.
Deri has neurofibromatosis which is a rare genetic disorder that can cause benign tumours of the nerves and in other parts pf the body, including the skin.
Due to this there is a 50% chance that it could be passed on to her child. She states that that is not an option as she doesn’t want her child to live with the challenges she does. So IVF is her last hope to carry a child as that uses eggs that have already been fertilised so there’s no chance of passing it on.
When speaking about the support they received from family, Deri said: “My mum was a huge support, but we lost her in 2019. I wanted to make her a Nana, but when we found out she was terminal we kind of gave up for a while and now we’ve decided to try again for the last time.”
The couple have previously applied for adoption, but living in a one bedroom flat, they were turned down. If their final round of IVF is unsuccessful, they hope to move into bigger accommodation to support the plea.
