Salford is yet to make its mind up regarding the Coronation, with many members of the public undecided on what they will be doing to celebrate, if celebrating at all.
The King’s Coronation takes place on Saturday 6 May, with there being a three day ceremony including a bank holiday on the 8 to mark the historic date.
We spoke to the community of Salford to find out their thoughts on the event and if they would be celebrating.
Greg, 30, a Media Consultant said: “I will be having a bank holiday on Monday.”
Whilst, Gaynor, Kathryn and Patricia from Altrincham said: “We will probably watch it on television, but we don’t have any street parties planned.”
For what will be a significant date for the history books, many of the people in Salford have little to no interest in the spectacle.
However, perhaps the focus should be the changing attitudes towards monarchy in the UK.
Graham, 62 said: “I’m personally a republican and don’t think we should have a monarch, like they have in Germany or Ireland with an elected head of state but a parliamentary system that we have now.”
Beth, 52 from Stockport said: “I think it’s a waste of money and too much of it. My little boy’s going to a cub camp.”
The Royal Family will be holding no expenses back as they prepare for the countries first crowning since June 2 1953, with the estimated amount to be spent on proceedings could be up to £100 million.
Then on Sunday 7, Katy Perry, Take That and Lionel Richie will headline a coronation concert at the Windsor Palace.
Many members of the public will just be hoping for good weather and a long weekend.
