Five LS Lowry paintings are set to be auctioned by private collectors for a staggering estimated total of £4.7 million.
The Railway Platform (£2 million), Glasgow Docks (£1.5 million), The Clock Tower (£600,000), Mrs Swindell’s Picture (£350,000) and A Lancashire Farm (£250,000) are all set to go under the hammer at Christie’s Auction House today (Tuesday 21 March).
Part of the Modern British and Irish Art Evening Sale, Lowry’s paintings are accompanied by works from David Hockney and Henri Gaudier-Brzeska.
The auction comes four months after The Law Family City Foundation successfully purchased ‘Going to The Match’ for £7.8m on behalf of The Lowry theatre. The painting now sits beside many other works by the artist within the theatre’s gallery.
In 2015 The Railway Platform sold at auction for £1.6m, £300,000 above its then estimate. On Tuesday it will go under the hammer again, with an estimate price of up to £2m.
The Modern British and Irish Art Evening Sale can be live-streamed tomorrow evening from 6pm via The Christie’s website.
