Small businesses from across Greater Manchester are set to attend a free Easter craft event in Eccles this month.
The Craft fair is presented by ANJU Events UK and is being held at Elm Bank Masonic Hall, Eccles on Sunday 26th March.
It works to showcases local crafting talent as well as offering a free Easter egg for every child attending with an adult. Organisers say: ‘The free Easter eggs is our way of giving back to the community.’
As well, visitors can pre-book an afternoon tea for only £8 per person.
The event is organised and ran by the Underwood couple. Nicola Underwood owns independent business Ginger Cat Home Fragrance.
The event showcases local talent such as Lou’s Lovely Bakes and Pretty Packages UK.
Owner of Lou’s Lovely Bakes, Louise Churchouse, says: “This is my first craft fair. I think it gives business owners the opportunity to meet people from their local community.”
One person selling at the event, Gemma Michelle Matthews, owner of Pretty Packages UK, created her business as a stress release for work. She said: “I work for the NHS in a Care Home service pharmacy, and it was incredibly stressful. I was looking for something to take my mind away.
“I have always been into creating things, especially fabrics or fibre as my mum taught me how to sew young.”
Gemma became inspired after seeing a piece of art on Pinterest of a massive macrame wall hanging. Following this she followed tutorials for different knots, making her own pieces of art.
She began creating items for family and got such a lovely response she began sharing online.
“From then on I just didn’t stop I’d fallen in love with it. I just went for it and opened an Etsy shop.”
Gemma feels craft fairs are important for local businesses to share their product and reach new audiences. She continued: “Attending craft fairs helps in a bunch of ways through gaining social media content, meeting like-minded people and discover the other crafters stalls.
“I only started markets last year as one of my new year business goals. I love going, mainly because my mum comes with me so I get to spend quality time with her. As well as gaining friendships with other craft makers.
“Craft fairs help us connect to the community, even if someone doesn’t buy from us, we get amazing feedback and compliments on our skills from people which is so nice to hear.”
The Easter crafts fair is free to attend and also has free parking and is wheelchair accessible.
