Youth Unity is serving in the heart of the Salford community by continuing its successful annual easter egg appeal.
Development manager, Alison Jones, described the easter egg appeal as a follow on from the incredibly successful annual Christmas Toy Appeal, which collected more than 700 toys for local children.
For the distribution of easter eggs, Youth Unity uses local early health teams and health providers as well as their own personal food club and accepting referrals.
The Toy Appeal started six years ago with less than 100 donations being received. Alison described the recent increase in donations, she said: “The things that has really upped those numbers was firstly covid and then the cost of living crisis.”
The cost-of-living-crisis has had a detrimental affect on adults and children across the UK. It is now reported that 1 in 4 children are currently living in poverty, and millions at risk of going hungry.
Of those struggling to afford sufficient food, 26% reported their child’s mental health worsening due to their situation. Due to this, many families may sacrifice non-essential easter treats which Youth Unity are aiming to prevent.
Alison Jones said: “It’s a very good feeling, I’m very pleased we can do it, we’ve learnt a lot over the years.
“What I pride on is that we’re not only good at getting them in, we’re good at getting them out for the right places as well.”
In addition to the Christmas and Easter appeals, they also host a Harvest Festival donations which alternatively is aimed at aiding older isolated people.
The donation address for Easter Eggs is 27-29 Hulton District Centre, Little Hulton and the last day to donate is April 1st.
