Two sisters from Salford have been named among the top 10% of fundraisers for the Alzheimer’s Society Glow Walk.
Sally Knight, from Boothstown, and her sister Julie, are taking part in the Glow Walk in memory of their Auntie Joan who passed away from the disease after a five-year battle.
Sally, 49, said: “I think most people, most families have some effects from Alzheimer’s and dementia in their family and it affects most people.
“It’s a great cause and obviously without getting funding and further research we’re not going to find any answers.
“We did win an award last month for the top 10% fundraisers for glow walk so we’re really pleased with that.”
The sisters have named themselves Joan’s Angels for the walk with friends Sam and Emma joining them.
The Glow Walk is set to take place on March 18 with a 5km walk around Salford Quays.
A third sister, Debbie Knight, is also taking part in the walk virtually due to living a long distance away.
Sally said: “My middle sister, who lives on the Isle of Skye, is doing it with us but round her garden as it’s a little bit of a trek for her to come to Salford Quays.”
With the walk taking place at 8pm Sally encouraged participants, saying: “Bring your torches, your glow sticks and make yourself noticeable.
“The more money we raise the better, £160 hosts a singing for bright brains session, singing old favourites that can bring a sense of joy that lasts well beyond the session.”
