Saflord’s Oakwood Academy will head to Old Trafford cricket ground on Friday night for the hotly anticipated Greater Manchester Sports awards.
The night recognises everyone from organisations to volunteers who have demonstrated excellence in their field.
Oakwood, which specialises in students aged between 9-18 with a range of learning difficulties, will be up for the “School Commitment to PE and Sport” award after being commended in Salford for its dedication to bringing high quality physical education and exiting curriculum to its students.
Darren Jones, head of PE at the Eccles school, said : “We are delighted to be nominated to attend the Greater Manchester Sports Awards Evening this Friday and represent Salford! The school offers students a wide variety of sports ranging from trampolining and swimming to rock climbing and dancing.
Mr Jones insists that the nomination was far from an individual effort.
He said: “I would also like to thank all members of our fantastic PE Department for all their hard work and commitment towards our young people.”
The awards will be hosted by BBC Radio Manchester host Chelsea Norris who will be joined by guest speaker Claire Lomas.
