Salford City will be looking to bounce back against Harrogate Town on Tuesday evening after a disappointing 1-0 loss to Tranmere Rovers last weekend.

The trip to Prenton Park was a frustrating encounter for Neil Wood’s men who struggled to get into the game, although will feel unfortunate to have come away empty handed.

The Ammies will want to return to winning ways against a Harrogate side with only one win in their last seven games and who currently sit 20th in the table.

Salford themselves sit within striking distance of the automatic promotion spots with only a four point gap separating them from Carlisle United.

Unsurprisingly Neil Wood and his players will be disappointed to have missed out on a huge opportunity to gain points on the top four who all dropped points on the weekend.

A slighlty deflated tone shrouded Neil Wood on Saturday evening after the defeat to Tranmere as the Salford manager said: “We know there’s going to be points dropped along the way, it’s important how we react, how we get back on track on Tuesday night. The good thing is we have a game on Tuesday night to put that right.

Plenty of emphasis was put on the opportunity to bounce back so soon.

Wood added: “We don’t want to worry about opposition . We know if we get our game right if we’re playing right we’ve got players that are good enough, we’ve got a good enough squad to go at teams and hurt teams and win points. We’re confident going into that.”

The Ammies have struggled to string together wins only managing two consecutives victories at any point during this season, symptomatic of a team flirting with automatic promotion spots.

This may need to change if Salford’s promotion hopes are to materialise as three huge games against Mansfield (6th), Swindon (10th) and Barrow (12th) loom on the horizon; four teams separated by just a hand full of points.

Salford will therefore be hoping that Harrogate will be the spark to a potential hot run of form.

Neil Wood will be hoping key players such as Conor McAleny and Elliot Watt can continue their fine performances, the two players possessing 20 goal contributions between them.

However it’s as a unit that the squad needs to improve as, conceding 30 goals in 30 games, not tight enough for a team aiming for the top three spots.

However Harrogate will be no rollover as they proved to Carlisle ten days ago beating them 1-0 on their home turf at Brunton Park even though they failed to have a single shot on target.

The Sulphurites have struggled for form of recent sitting in 20th spot, only three points of the relegation zone, the professional football pyramid’s basement.

Town fans will be looking towards long term manager Simon Weaver for inspiration, the man who made their football league dream reality.

Weaver who joined as a player manager in 2009 has spent over 13 years at the club as manager and has presided over 700 matches.

Along with his father Irving the Weavers have hauled Harrogate from the 6th tier of English football into the professional realms.

Salford will be wary of their former striker Luke Armstrong who is the 6th top goalscorer in the league with 10 goals in 27 games.

The 26-year-old forward played 25 league games for Salford between 2019-2021 scoring one goal before being Sold to Harrogate Town for an undisclosed fee.

A goal from Armstrong would be poetic in its essence and almost written in the stars judged off his recent goal scoring record.

The 7:45pm kick off under said stars and floodlights of the Peninsula Stadium will leave Salford hoping that the only thing written in the sky will be three more points.
