After Salford City’s hard fought victory over local rivals Rochdale on Saturday, manager, Neil Wood, says his team’s ambition is to reach the automatic play-off places.
Salford City held on to a slender lead on Saturday to win the local derby against Rochdale AFC and put them within three points of League Two’s automatic promotion places.
With two teams placed below them in their next two games in Swindon and Harrogate Town it’s a real opportunity for The Ammies to push Carlisle United who are three points above them in 3rd.
Wood also praised January signing Alex Cairns for his recent performances hailing the importance of having a “good goalkeeper behind your defence”, but reiterating that,”without wanting to sound like Roy Keane that is his job.”
There were many positives to take from Saturday’s game despite it being a hard fought game, the performances of Elliot Watt who registered his 10th assist of the season and Matt Smith who notched up his 7th goal of the season have both been integral to Salford’s promotion push this season.
Connor McAleney,a goal scorer on Saturday has also been nominated for League 2’s player of the month award after his incredible recent form with seven goals in his last seven games.
