Incredible Education has been nominated for the Innovation UK Community Project at this year’s Green Heart Hero Awards.
These awards celebrate the unsung heroes who are helping to create a future where the UK no longer contributes to climate change.
Ian Bocock, director and horticulture educational lead at Incredible Education, said: “It is really nice for our volunteers that they’ve been recognised for this. Incredible Education is not just about the board and the staff it is very much about the local community.”
The community interest company based in Winton, Eccles, was founded in 2014 and began its trade by delivering horticulture services.
In the past four years it has been developing Cleavley Community Forest Garden which was transformed from being an overgrown and abandoned plant nursery.
Ian continued: “There’s still work to do but we’ve introduced a lot.”
Features so far include a forest school garden, a pond and a growing space which includes a greenhouse and a polytunnel.
The groups also runs a cafe which serves coffee and has a small menu.
Here is Ian explaining the changes:
To add to this they are currently building workshop which will have wood work and craft activities.
Ian did not know they were nominated until he received an email. He said: “I got an email saying we have been nominated for the Innovative UK Community Project because we are very much involved in the local community we have a lot of volunteers in the local community.”
