Former Barcelona academy star Louie Barry has become Salford City’s fourth signing of the window on a loan deal from Premier League side Aston Villa.
The 19-year-old joins forwards Alex Cairns, Callum Morton and Shane McLoughlin coming through the door at the Peninsula in what has been a busy Winter transfer period for Neil Wood’s side. Barry joins the Ammies, cutting his loan at League 1 MK Dons short and will play at the Peninsula Stadium until the end of the season.
Barry spoke about his excitement at the project Neil Wood and his players are building at Salford. He said: “The club’s going in the right direction. Yhey’ve got really good owners backing them and when I spoke to the gaffer, he put down the foundations of what the club was and that’s what I liked.”
After impressing in the West Brom academy, the young winger was picked up by Barcelona’s infamous La Masia academy where he spent the 2019/20 season before joining Baggies city rivals, Aston Villa. Many loan spells followed where Barry struggled to find his feet, before finally having his dream moment as he scored for The Villains first team in an FA Cup third defeat to European Giants Liverpool, a goal which was eventually voted goal of the third round.
Salford fans will be hoping their new man can be the catalyst to secure the Ammies a playoff position for the first time since they were promoted to League 2 in 2019.
