Barton Aqueduct closed for essential maintenance for at least half of March

Barton Aqueduct is set to be shut throughout a majority of March due to essential maintenance.

The aqueduct, situated on the Leigh branch of the Bridgewater Canal, is set to be closed form Monday 6 March, 07:30, until Monday 20 March, 16:00.

Peel L&P announced the two-week closure via a Tweet, this morning (Monday 30 January).

The tweet read: “Barton Aqueduct… will be closed to navigation during the following period for annual maintenance.

“Work to the Aqueduct is being carried out by The Manchester Ship Canal Company and is expected to be completed within the specified period of time. However, due to the nature of the work the Company cannot guarantee completion on the published date.

“We apologise for any inconvenience.”
