A man from Eccles has raised hundreds of pounds for a Dementia charity following his mother’s three-year battle with the disease.
On Friday 20th January, Paul Livesey hosted a charity fundraiser for Dementia UK at Patricroft Conservative Club. The event included an auction, raffle and live music with Paul Hand and DJ ASY.
Mr Livesey is secretary of Patricoft Conservative Club and runs their social media page.
He said: “I have thought for a long time, with this being such a horrible disease, that I wanted to give something back and maybe give another family the support that they need.”
“My mum, Margaret Livesey, passed away mid-July, following a three-year battle with Dementia.
“After being diagnosed with the disease, her heath rapidly declined and resulted in her having to stay at a Care Home.
“She resided there for nearly 12 months. The home was wonderful with her and we as a family can’t thank them enough.”
Dementia is progressive disease, which means symptoms may be relatively mild at first, but they get worse over time. There are many types of dementia, but Alzheimer’s disease is the most common.
He continued: “I decided to organise the charity event with my brother, John, and my dad, David. We want to raise some money to be able to donate to this great charity.”
The event was organised in conjunction with Savannah Redhead, the Community Fundraising Executive for Dementia UK with all proceeds going to the charity.
So far from the event and the fundraising page, the family have raised just over £700 with the chance for people to still donate on the JustGiving page.
