Salfordians have taken to Facebook to discuss the issue of rising levels of dog mess throughout the area, particularly in Cadishead and Lower Irlam.

The complaints come after Salford City Council shared a Facebook post urging dog-owners to pick-up after their dogs, and report those not complying with the rules via an online forum. The post also warned that those caught leaving dog mess could be fined up to £1,000.

Some Salfordians shared their views on the issue in the comments.

One user, Linda Shaw-Johnson wrote: “No one takes any notice of your signs, if you had a warden to catch them it would pay for itself with the amount of fines you could issue.”

Another user asked for more bins along the loop line, in order to create more areas for dog waste to be disposed of.

Councillor for Cadishead & Lower Irlam, Hannah Robinson-Smith explained that she had seen ‘LOTS’ of complaints relating to dog waste, and has begun to take action along with the Council.

In a repost, Cllr Robinson-Smith wrote: “We’ve had a LOT of complaints about dog poo on the roads in Cadishead & Lower Irlam, so today we have spoken to the team responsible and they will be doing regular clean ups and will ensure more attendance from the dog wardens to try to catch those responsible!”

Councillor Barbara Bentham, lead member for environment and community safety, said: “It is the responsibility of the dog owner to clean up after their pet. The loopline has litter bins at every entrance and we do ask the public to use those for both litter and bagged dog waste.

“If our enforcement officers catch offenders in the act then they will be asked to clean it up and if they refuse will be issued with a penalty notice. If people have information about regular offenders then if we they share information with us we can put measures in place to try and catch the offender.”
