Salford City have announced that their fixtures against Northampton Town and Sutton United will be priced at £5 for adults and £2 for children as part of new ‘Going to the Match’ campaign.
The campaign, inspired by the return of L.S Lowry’s painting to Salford, is an attempt to make football accessible to everyone in the cost of living crisis.
Child poverty in our city is at a terrifying 23%, including ‘in-work poverty’ – where families require foodbank provision despite being in paid, full-time work. Fuel poverty for Salford residents is 15% and 9% of people in the city struggle with food insecurity…

The club said in a tweet: “One of the clubs mottos is “The welfare of the people is the highest law.” Taken from the city’s coat of arms.
“With this motto at the forefront of our thinking it is important we do what we can to support the most vulnerable in our community and make ‘Going to the Match’ an accessible experience for all.”
The match against Northampton Town kicks off at 12:30 pm on Saturday 7th January and has been chosen for television coverage, while the match against Sutton United takes place the following week, on the 14th of January and kicks off at 3pm.
