Salford City defender and Ex-Republic of Ireland international, Stephen O’Halloran, has today announced his retirement from football after a 19-year career.
Stephen played for Salford between 2015 and 2017, making 82 appearances and scoring two goals, seeing one promotion with the Ammies in that time.

A club spokesperson for Salford City FC said: “We would like to thank Hally for his efforts in the two years of his career he spent in Salford , and we all wish him well in his post-playing career.”
The club also commented on his great professionalism, saying: “He was well loved by players, staff and supporters, and he made some crucial contributions to the club’s rise through the tiers including scoring in the infamous 3-2 Northern Premier League Playoff final against Workington in 2016.”
The 35 year old has an impressive CV, representing clubs such as Aston Villa and having loans at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Southampton, Leeds United and Swansea City.
The player has also represented his country, The Republic of Ireland, at both youth and senior level. He played for the youth side between 2005 and 2007 and made two appearances for the senior side in the latter.
The player scored just four goals in his career, meaning half of that tally came for Salford City – his second goal was an equaliser that helped secure a 3-2 victory that ensured Salford’s promotion to National League North.
In his retirement post, Stephen said: “After 19 years of playing the sport I love, it’s time to retire and hang up my boots.”
“Football has given me so much. From the highest highs to the toughest times. I’ve had some unbelievable experiences and made some special memories playing over the years.” He added.
19 years ago I moved to England to play football. After 19 years of playing the sport I love, it’s time to retire and hang up my boots.
I have no doubt football will always play a big part in my life and I’m excited for the future.
Go raibh míle maith agat.

He was very vocal about his appreciation to his family, saying: “A special thank you to my amazing mam and dad, my brother Pete, my wife Yvone and all my friends for always being there for me over the years.”
O’Halloran made his debut for Salford City at age 27 in the opening game of the 2015/16 season against Marine, drawing the game 0-0.
He scored his first goal for the club in December of 2015, bagging the Ammies’ goal in a 1-1 draw with Hartlepool United in a second round tie of the FA Cup.
