The people of Salford may be behind England this weekend as they look to face France in a World Cup quarter-final but this could be difficult for a Frenchman who lives in Salford.
Stainlas Carel discussed his thoughts on the game. He said: “I am very confident, with Mbappe we have the best player in the world on our team, it is a huge bonus.”
France striker Mbappe is the current favourite for the World Cup golden boot having already scored five goals this tournament, two more than any other player.
However, Mr Carel respects the Three Lions and said that England have a ‘superb team’ after Gareth Southgate’s side played fluid counter-attacking football against Senegal in the round of 16.
The fact Mr Carel will be outnumbered as a France fan doesn’t scare him. He continued: “It will be fun even if England will be way more represented.
“I honestly think that the English fans are even crazier than the French, maybe also thanks to the beers but when Atmosphere Bar is open when England plays is just insane. It’s always overcrowded”.
“I was scared before the start, we were missing players like Pogba, Benzema and Kante and we lost Hernandez against Australia but the team responds well to pressure as seen with the previous World Cup win in 2018.”
There is no reason for France fans to lack confidence as Les Bleus have momentum following a 3-1 win versus Poland.
This World Cup has seen massive upsets with Morocco recently beating Spain and with impressive underdogs like Japan and South Korea exceeding expectations, Mr Carel has been impressed with the World Cup.
He added: “This World Cup is really nice, this is why we love football things happen which are so unexpected and crazy, I honestly can’t wait for the France vs England game it’s going to be a very high intense game but something which I am very excited for.”
France play England on Saturday at 7:00pm.
