Salford City World Cup break

While the Premier League is taking a break due to the World Cup, Salford City and Irlam FC have been hoping to see an influx of supporters.

There was an attendance of 3,454 at the Peninsula Stadium for the Carlisle United on November 19th. The week before there was only an attendance of 2,591 when the Ammies faced AFC Wimbledon.

Manchester City and United fans were spotted at the match against Carlisle.

Salford resident, Matt Kerr, said: “I was surprised to see a number of Man City and United fans around the Peninsula, this must be down to the Premier League season being paused due to the World Cup.”

The Ammies take on Walsall at the Peninsula Stadium on Saturday, going into the match off the back of a 3-0 victory at Gillingham.

Salford will be hoping they will see a number of fans turn up, so they can get their football fix.

Irlam will be looking to return to winning ways in the Northwest Counties Football League Premier Division against Wythenshawe Town tonight.

They have been showing England’s World Cup matches in their 1935Clubhouse, even when Irlam haven’t been playing.

This has been an opportunity for Salfordians to get down and soak up the atmosphere with drinks and refreshments, while supporting their local football club.
