A dad of two is set to stop off at Salford City Stadium on a cycling challenge to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Danny Brazenell, a self confessed ‘jack of all trades’, is cycling to 92 different football clubs next August for the charity.
Danny is no stranger to a fitness challenge having previously completed the London marathon in honour of niece Leah, who was battling cancer.
After seeing his niece go through cancer treatment Danny wanted to give back to the NHS, so decided to raise money for children’s hospital Great Ormond Street.
The challenge will see Danny cycle from the south of the UK to the north in a matter of days.
“I stop in Manchester on the 20th August and then I’ll be cycling to Salford City FC on the 21st August,” said Danny.
Mr Brazenell said: “I’ll be cycling on my own but there will be people turning up all over the event to just help out. We’ll be using Life360 to track my location and journey and my daughter is helping me to run my social media accounts.”
Danny hopes that word will spread of his challenge to the clubs he is going to visit to boost donations and help raise money for the hospital charity.
He has a target of raising more than £5,000 for the charity. The challenge will see him take a month off of work unpaid, so he hopes to raise as much money as he can during the cycle.
He continued: “It’s 100 miles a day, every day for 20 days. The preparation and training is going well. I had to stop for two weeks due to a nasty cough but I’ve cycled about 400 miles in three weeks and lost over a stone in weight.
“Prior to this my fitness was okay, as I built a gym in lockdown and started doing workouts. It’s a lot better now, cycling a lot more; so fingers crossed 100 miles a day should be good.
“The amount of money we raise will hopefully give them a lot more support in the hospital.”
