The family of a Cadishead man who collapsed and died while participating in a charity run have begun a fundraising campaign towards his funeral.
Rob Davies was doing the five-kilometre Poppy Run on Remembrance Sunday when he was taken ill.
Now his nephew, Mark, and Mark’s wife Natalie, have launched a Crowdfunder to pay for Rob’s funeral and are also planning to re-stage the 5k run on December 4.
Rob’s partner, Alison, said: “It means a great deal to me what Mark and Natalie have done, and I can’t thank them enough. It was important to re-stage this event because Rob obviously didn’t finish it. It’s lovely to know what is being done in his name.”
The tragedy has been devastating for Alison. She said: “I am really not coping well; I can’t stop bursting into tears. It’s so very hard to try and cope with all this.
“I just wish it was a nightmare, but it obviously isn’t. I still can believe it – I’m devastated.”
Rob Davies was born at Park Hospital Davyhulme (Now Trafford General) on July 26th 1965. After growing up in Cadishead, he attended St Teresa’s RC Primary School in Irlam and later St Pat’s high school in Winton. Mr Davies had many hobbies, including cycling, camping, and playing in several bands.
One of his bands, Bang2Rightz in 2018 performed gigs in Preston, Bamber Bridge, Morecambe and Lancaster. They supported Rainbow Rising at The Waterloo in Blackpool in May this year.
The re-staged run is set to start at the Catholic Club for a moment of reflection and memory before beginning the run at 10am.
